My wife's grandparents live in Astoria, and luckily this year her family decided to meet in Astoria to celebrate Christmas. I was completely ecstatic needless to say, to visit the Goon-docks. I rained every day we were there, I loved it. We were just going to try to drive around and find the locales (it's not that big of a town), but luckily we stumbled onto this site and found all the shoot locations. The town of Astoria is absolutely beautiful, I'd love to buy a house and start a local Goonies Tour.

Yesterday my friends and I went to Astoria to do the Goonie Tour. I had reviewed your website and seen your movies prior to going there. I am from Portland Oregon so it is not that far away. Excellent site by the way.

The first picture is of me and my friend Hadi standing in front of the walsh house as it stands today.

The Second Picture is of the sign at the bottom of the hill. Letting people know that this is the Goonie House

and the third picture is me outside Chunk's Bowling alley.

I hope you enjoy this pictures and can post them. Thank you for your website. Goonies forever.

Haystack Rock: Susan after a long, cold, windy walk to the rock.

House: Remodeling again it looks like, extending the porch, but it was still RAD to see.

HouseSign: Very cute. It’s nice to see the owners welcome Goonie fans.

County Jail: Rob goes to jail.

My name is Todd. Recently me and my girlfriend (also a diehard goonies fan) were in Astoria (Aug. 28 today) checking out the goonies house. Thought you might enjoy an update of what the house looks like today. We were able to get this picture of the house with the remodel complete, but there is a no trespassing sign up now due to the looting of the owners yard. Here also is a picture of Dani (girlfriend) at the old jail. Thanks for the pics on the website. We enjoyed all of them.

I put up a web page in January 2003 comparing the 1985 Goonies to their
modern-day counterparts on the DVD and planned a trip to Astoria from
my home in nearby Portland, Oregon to visit the sites. My chance came
in August when my family got tickets on the Explorer Train which
commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition
by following their route along the Columbia River from Portland to
Astoria and back.

The train stops for a few hours at the old 20th Street train station
on the waterfront in Astoria, within easy walking distance of the
Goonies House and the other Goonie sites in town. A paved walking
trail follows the waterfront along the railroad tracks, so proceeding
NE along this I soon caught sight of the Goonies House up on the
hill. You can also see it when driving NE on Highway 30 through
Astoria. In Picture 1 the two red lines point out Data's house on the
left and the Goonies house on the right.

I continued NE on the railroad tracks until reaching 37th Street.
Picture 2 was taken standing on 37th Street looking across Marine Dr.
(Hwy 30). The teal-colored building is the same one Rosalita nearly
gets run over in front of at the start of the movie, and it was the
store featured in the cut scene. You can see how close it is to the
Goonies house marked with the red line up on the hill.

Picture 3 was my first close-up view of the Goonies house walking up
the unpaved portion of 38th Street. The house and grounds were
undergoing renovation, and as can be seen there's some nice terraced
landscaping in front. Picture 4 shows the house from the same
"mailbox" vantage as at the start of the movie. Hopefully they'll put
a white picket fence around it when the work is done!

I made my first trip to Astoria to go on my own "Goonie" tour in July 2002.
Like you guys, I also did online research to find the Haystack
Rock/restaurant, Flavel House, Walsh House, County Jail and bowling alley
locations. I hadn't realized that the owners of the Walsh house had
repainted it since I was there, but I was lucky enough to see it with its
original red trim (a bit faded of course). I currently live only about 2
hours away from Astoria in Vancouver, WA, and so I can now visit as often as
I want. After "Goonies" first came out, I was living in Mt. Shasta City,
CA, and found out from a mountain climber/guide friend of my mothers that
none other than Sean Astin himself was in Mt. Shasta City filming scenes for
his next movie, "White Water Summer," with Kevin Bacon. I found out which
hotel he was staying at and my mother agreed to take me and my little sister
to brunch at the hotel's restaurant to see if he'd make an appearance. To
my adolescent ecstasy (I was 12 years old), the entire cast filed into the
restaurant while we were there and I got to meet the then-love-of-my-life
Sean Astin and get an autograph. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was so
overwhelmed by this meeting that immediately afterwards, I ran into the
restroom crying. Oh! It made my whole year! Sigh!

I'll never forget my own "Goonies" vacation and appreciate your willingness
to share your own in the way you have! Thanks!

(Photos)Here's a photo of the Walsh house before the new paint job and one of a specially decorated chimney on a house about four blocks down the hill from the Walsh house (the community really loves its "Goonies" claim to fame
apparently).

Katie's Adventure

(Top Photo) Tonight I met Sean Astin. Well, I shared air with him. That counts, right? I attended a charity screening of his short film, "The Long and Short of It" and "The Two Towers." Sean spoke before the film (which is five minutes long) and did a very long Q&A afterwards (before introducing TTT). Due to time constraints (and inclement weather - hey, it's the PNW!), it turned out The Powers That be were instead going to collect all our things and have Sean sign them before he left. So I never got a chance to really chat with him, but he did sign my Goonies storybook.

(Second Photo) Here is a photo of Sean hard at work building the deck at The Riggs Institute. You can't see mee, but I'm just beyond the wheel barrel you can see above Sean's back.
Before he left, he took off the tie dye, signed it with a message, and asked us each to sign it as well, and hang it up in The Riggs Institute. And that we did

One important thing: before Sean left, I was able to politely ask him if he could please make me an Honorary Goonie. He gleefully complied and asked who else wanted to be one. Unfortunately, there were a lot of younger folk there who I think were just there to see/meet Sean. A few of these girls shrieked at the prospect and joined in. He had us repeat after him an impromptu swearing-in oath and declared us all Goonies. I rather wish the other girls hadn't chimed in because they sort of "cheapened" it. Not that I was expecting to get down on my knees and be knighted, but I was rather serious about it.

I have fullfilled a eighteen year dream...and finally became...One Of The Goonies.

(Top Photo) This is what the Goonies house looks like as of December 27, 2002. Notice the trim is black, not red like in the movie, and the fence is missing.

(Middle Photo) As you walk up the driveway this sign lets you know that its Ok to walk up and take a look at the Goonie House. I also believe that in the "Making of the Goonies", that Steven Spielberg is shown at the begining leaning on these exact mail boxes, but at the top of the hill by the house.

(Bottom Photo) This is a distant picture of the neighborhood as your walking towards the Goonie House.

My dad used to own a dock right across from the store (now the coffee house) and they filmed parts of the movie on it, but it was edited out. While filming on the dock one of their police cars hit the corner of our building... they had it repaired the next day. i dont live in astoria anymore, but i still have all the junk...heres a scan the of business card and myself and my twin, oh and my little brother minis is face, one of the other brothers got mad and scrached him out, thats the old dock behind us...this is from oh 1985.
